You're in a tricky situation, so you lie yourself out. You didn't study for an upcoming test, and on the test day, you think it's the easiest to cheat yourself into a passing grade. Your friends have thing you don't have, you want them so you steal to "impress". Though there are more civilized ways to get around certain situations, people still feel the urge to get by through these sort of ways. It's leads to less trouble if you simply do things the way they're meant to be.
